Family Connections Centre

A Family Connections Centre (FCC) is a single-entry point for all developmental services for children and youth (0 – 19 years) and their families.

The Ministry of Children and Family Development developed the Pilot, Framework, Guidelines and Policies.

Until December 2025 with the possibility of two years extension.

There are four Pilot Family Connections Centres –Kelowna, Terrace, Prince Rupert, and Smithers. The Northwest Child Development Centre is the pilot site for the FCC in Smithers. The communities served are from Houston to Atlin, BC.

The Northwest Child Development Centre’s – FCC locations include the
Regional Centre in Smithers
Community based locations in Houston and Hazeltons with outreach to all other communities.

Family-Centered Approach
Services that families receive through the FCC are voluntary and are focused on the priorities identified by the Child, Youth or Family.

Types of Services
Services might include resources, group activities, parent education, or visits with an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Developmental Consultants, Inclusive Childcare Consultants, and Child and Youth Support Workers.

The FCC will help Families access services based on their Child/Youth’s needs.

Services are available to Children/Youth with or without a specific diagnosis.

Community or Home – Based
Services are available in the community or home or where a Family lives.
